External roller shutters are a practical system that protects us in three ways: through a perfect insulation, the protection of our privacy and the peace of mind while providing an effective “anti-burglar barrier”. Roller shutters are made from carefully selected materials to ensure the highest quality of the product. Whether in flush, top-mounted or adaptive system, roller shutters are designed to improve the building energy use. Roller shutters can greatly help reduce heating costs in winter while in summer, when the sun shines and the outside temperature rises, they provide a pleasant sensation off coolness, giving rest to the tired eyes at twilight. In addition, thanks to the intelligent design and carefully selected materials, roller shutters provide effective protection against intruders, the house becomes a place where we feel safe and comfortable.
1. Front-mounted system
Roller shutters in front mounted systems are designed for use in existing buildings. The advantage of these products is that they do not require any special pre-installation preparation nor works to the existing structure as they are not integrated with the window. These solutions can be mounted to the window joinery or to the lintel, or directly on the wall therefore, buyers can decide to install the front-mounted roller shutters at any time.
Marhome offers roller-boxes in three forms: rectangular (cut at an angle of 45 °), oval and half-oval, to enable a proper fit to the external wall. Thanks to broad colour range, they are an ideal decorative element, matching the buildings design. Elements from a high quality aluminium sheet metal have an increased resistance to abrasion and weather conditions. The well-thought-out construction of the roller shutters and good selection of materials ensure effective protection against unwanted guests. Furthermore, they help make buildings sound proof and better insulated, lowering the temperature in summer time and costs of heating during colder seasons.
Did you know…
…that in winter, the windows and doors contribute to a loss of 25% of the heat and in the summer they absorb the sunlight in 80%.
To save energy during the winter and avoid the excessive rooms’ heating in the summer it is worth to apply the roller shutters. These will help to reduce energy costs during the whole year up to 30%.
2. Flush-mounted system
Flush-mounted systems are mainly designed for new buildings. However, once the necessary modifications to the lintel are made, these products can also be installed in existing buildings. It is important to plan the use of such solutions, this also applies to the installation method, as early as at the building design stage to allow for the effective use of the product’s functional values. Flush-mounted systems bring excellent thermal insulation performance as they do not require any modifications to the existing windows, doors or lintels, and thus do not affect the building energy use. What’s more, they perfectly fit the building’s façade and form an integral part thereof. The front section of the roller-box is equally a basis for any finishing material so that it remains an unnoticed element of the façade.
Aluprof’s SP and SP-E systems are designed to ensure, first and foremost, a good protection against heat loss. This was especially appreciated by the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt (PHI) , and the organization has issued a recommendation to apply both these solutions for 165 mm boxes and smaller.
In the SP system, we are also offering the version with an anti-insect mesh, which during warm days, apart from advantages mentioned above, provides the effective protection against the insects while maintaining the flux of light and the flow of fresh air to the inside.
3. Top-mounted system
Top-mounted roller shutter system is a product addressed to those who look for functional solutions. SKT OPOTERM-based roller shutters are intended for both newly constructed and refurbished buildings (replacement of windows). This on-window mounted system has its box direct installed on the window frame by means of an appropriate profile. These profiles are compatible with the majority of window and door frame profiles (aluminium, wooden & PVC). Boxes are made of high quality PVC components and are characterised by an increased thermal insulation.
Aluprof’s SKT Opoterm top-mounted roller shutter system has received a thermal transmittance-related certificate from renowned research centre IFT Rosenheim. The roller-boxes were tested using EPS (Neopor, thermal insulation material) – the tests were based on the current standards and calculation methods. The product demonstrated a very good thermal transmittance performance, e.g. the SKT 230/170 box with integrated insect screen obtained a Usb coefficient of 0.73 W / (m²K) while maintaining high operability to shadow larger glazed areas. On customer’s demand, the top-mounted system SKT Opoterm can be equipped with an insect screen, built-in the roller-box (MOSKITO). This integrated system makes the roller shutter and the insect screen work independently.
4. Anti-burglary system
The innovative anti-burglary roller shutter system is directed to those for whom ensuring safety to their families is of significant importance. The reinforced construction of guides (PPW 80 and PPW 90), armouring made from extruded profile (PE 55), reinforcement of bottom slat (W-LDG 55/W) and two protection systems (WB and LDG 55/W) – are all the ideal solution which combines a strong, fixed and closed shield with aesthetic performance and comfort of use.
The anti-burglary roller shutter has been tested in an accredited laboratory and given the burglary resistance class 3 (RC 3) according to PN-EN 1627:2011.
The anti-burglary construction may be used in the adapting as well as flush-mounted systems.
